Can i use stones and rocks from my back yard for aquarium decoration?
My tank looks dull and i want to add somethings to it. Can i use rocks or stones from my back yard as decorations? or will it affect the water and kill my fish? is there something i have to do to the rocks?

You can use rocks from outside to decorate your tank, but you need to watch out for some… If you use chemicals or pesticides on your yard id go somewhere where there aren’t any used like a river or stream bed. First scrub the rocks to get of any loose debris with plain water(no soaps). Then you will want to Boil or bake the rocks to kill of any bacteria and or parasites that may be introduced into your tank. After the rocks cool you can add them to your tank!! When picking out rocks you may want to have a mild acidic liquid like lemon juice or white vinegar with you… Pour a little bit on each rock you pick up and see if it fizzes/foams, if it does don’t use it, rocks that fizz will have large amounts of calcium and will wreak havoc on your water chemistry! Usually you can be safe with the very hard smooth rocks found near river beds.. stay away from soft rocks and sandy rocks that crumble, as that is a sure sign the will dissolve in your water, and that will mess up your water chemistry. You may want to check your PH levels for a few weeks after adding the rocks To be sure your safe!! Have fun decorating your tank
